For 3-10 players
The object of SketchMaster is to make drawings for the opponents to guess and to guess what the opponents are drawing. Each game lasts 3 or more rounds depending on the number of players and the number of rounds per player selected when creating the game. All players take turns making a drawing without drawing letters while the opponents try to guess what is being drawn. The word the drawing player is supposed to draw is shown on his/her screen only. The drawing player has 1-3 minutes to draw the word dependent on the game's configuration. The faster an opponent can guess the word, the more points are awarded to both drawing player and opponent (for more information on how points are awarded please examine the section "Points").
Please note that it is legal to use numbers and special signs while drawing. ONLY letters are forbidden.
Allowed during the game
It is allowed to use numbers while drawing
It is allowed to use special characters while drawing (e.g. $, +, =, ? etc.)
Not allowed during the game
You are NOT allowed to draw letters while drawing.
You are NOT allowed to draw lines to indicat how many letters the word contains.
Letters, no matter if they are seen as symbols or not (for example P for
Parking or Z for sleeping/snoring) are not allowed.
You are NOT allowed to use the chat for typing in hints or the word to be guessed.
You are NOT allowed to warn a player about using letters for no reason.
Warn a player about using letters!
If you experience that the drawing player is using letters, you can notify the player of this by clicking the red button with the exclamation mark. If half or more of the players do this (however, in games with only 3 or 4 players total all players have to warn) the drawer's turn is forfeited and he/she loses all points accumulated during the turn. All points earned by guessing players this turn are also cancelled.

The following tools are available when drawing: Freehand, spray can, line tool, rectangle, circle, fill, eraser, new image. In addition to these tools you can choose among different brush sizes and colours. The colour is chosen in the panel shown below. Here it is the colour 'black', at the bottom right, which is selected. You draw your drawing in the draw area shown below.
Freehand:

You begin a freehand line by pressing and holdning down the left mouse button. While moving the mouse all points (pixels) touched by the cursor are coloured. Release the left mouse button to end the line.
Spray can:

Spray can works as freehand except that more points surrounding the point touched by the cursor are coloured.
Line:

Draws straight lines. You begin a line by pressing and holding the left mouse button and end the line by releasing the left mouse button again. The line is drawn between the two points where you pressed and relased the mouse button respectively.
Rectangle:

Works like the line tool. except the two points here make up the top and bottom corner of a rectangle drawn between the points.
Circle:

Works like the rectangle tool excetp it draws circles. More precisely, it is actually able to draw both circles and ellipses.
Fill:

Fill only requires a single click in the drawing area. It fills the area surrounding the mouse cursor with the selected colour. If you, for example, have drawn a circle using the circle tool, you can fill it with red colour using this tool.
Eraser:

The eraser works like the freehand tool, except that it erases (essentially draws white) and affects a larger area than the freehand tool.
New image:

Erases everything you have drawn.
Brush size:

Brush size is selected in the panel above the draw area. The larger size you choose, the wider your drawn lines will be. The brush size panel can be seen at the left.
Undo:

The yellow undo button deletes the last drawn part of your drawing. For example, if the last action you have performed was to fill a rectangle with green colour, then the green fill will disappear if you press this button.

If you are drawing and nobody is able to guess the word, you have the option to help them by providing addional hints about the word they are guessing. If you press the hint button once, alle guessing players are told how many letters the word consists of. If you click again, you reveal the first letter, and so forth.
Bear in mind that each time a hint is given 2 points are deducted from your score.

When you are guessing, the goal of the game is to guess the word as quickly as possible. If you are the first to guess the word, you will receive more points than players who guess the word after you. The amount of points awarded for guessing the word decreases as more players guess the word. Note that once the word is guessed, the time left in the current round is set to 30 seconds. If the time is at or below 30 seconds when the first correct guess is made, no change are made to the clock.
Guess in the chat:
SketchMaster has its own internal "chat" for you to type your guesses. You can guess as many times as you like during each round, and additionally, you will see which guesses your opponents make. If you get close to the correct word, the chat will notify you in red letters. No other players will see these red messages. Some of the things you are asked to guess may consist of several words (e.g. "black cat"). If you guess one of the words, the chat will inform you which word is correct. The same applies if you guess part of a word (e.g. "bill" is a part of the longer word "duckbill"). Once you have guessed the word, you cannot type in the SketchMaster chat before the next round begins.

Note the sound in SketchMaster. Many sounds may help you while you are busy guessing. For instance, a certain sound is played each time one of your opponents guesses the word. Likewise, a distict sound is played when one of your guesses is close to the correct word.

Note that the 15 seconds threshold which can yield a point bonus is an approximate. More accurately, the 15 second threshold is measured on the server and the clock on the server can be slightly out of sync with the clock you see in your SketchMaster client. This may result in a slight difference between 'actual' time and the time observed by you.

When a rated game ends, rating is awarded based on your points related to the points of the other players. The amount of rating you gain or lose is adjustet to the number of players participating in the game. The player in first place wins rating from the player in last place. The player in second place wins from the player just above last place and so forth. If an odd number of players participate in the game, the player ranked in the middle neither gains nor loses any rating.
