The game |

Hearts is a card game for 4 players. A deck of cards is divided between the players. The players take turn at playing a card, trying to follow suit which the round was started with. When all four players have played a card, the values are compared, and the trick goes to the player, whom played the highest card in the suit of that round. The goal is to get as few points as possible, and the game ends when a players reaches a 100 points.
The player who has the 2 of clubs always starts the game. The card is played automatically and the other players must then follow suit. If they are not able to follow suit, they must play another card. In the first round hearts and queen of spades must not be played - these are the point cards of the game. The rounds to follow are always started by the player, who got the trick in the last round.

Before a round is begun, each player must pick three cards to pass to one of the other players. In the first round the cards are given to the player to the left, in the second round to the player to the right, in the third round to the player opposite. In the fourth round no cards are switched, while in the fifth round the sequence starts all over again.

Broken hearts |

|
|
A trick must only be begun with hearts, if the player only has hearts in the hand, or if a player earlier in the game has played hearts, because the player was not able to follow suit. When this has happen hearts are broken.

Points |
|
|
Only hearts and queen of spades give points. All hearts give 1 point, while queen of spades gives 13 points. Remember, that the game is about getting as few points as possible!
If a player is so unfortunate to get all cards giving points the luck turns. The player then gets 0 point, while the other players get 26 points! This is called Shoot the Moon.

Players controlled by a computer |
|
|
|
If a game is started with fewer than four players, the last players will be controlled by a computer. If a player leaves during the game, a computer controlled player will take his/her place. A player controlled by a computer, does not play as well as a skilled human player.
